The Finance and Accounting Association hosted a Presentation the evening of May 14th at the Garrett Mountain Campus which by all "accounts" - no pun intended! - was a big success. With close to 25 students in attendance, the evening's Presentation by a Representative of Becker Professional Review was fun and relaxing as well as informative. Clearly all the pizza and soda eaten was testimony to that!
With a focus on what is involved in taking the CPA exam for Accountants and the CFA exam for Financial professionals, John Bandoni - Marketing Coordinator for Becker - was informative all the way. He provided information and insights on what is involved if one gears up to take such exams, each of which represents the capstone achievement for accountants and finance people, respectively. He explained that while intensive and expensive, the costs - both time and money - of taking the exams as well as preparing to take the exams are more then made back in the form of higher compensation throughout one's career.
Many thanks and kudos go to Nicole Fye, Co-President of the Finance and Accounting Association, for bringing this event to our campus here at GMT. And many thanks also go to Student Development for funding and working through the logistics of providing the room itself as well as providing the pizza and soda, as well as to all who assisted in whatever way.
The students in attendance at the Presentation expressed an interest in having more future events similar to this one: events that are informative, presented in the evening, and held in the relaxed way as was this presentation. And the gifts given away - by Becker - were appreciated as well! In that regard, the concept of the Association having its meetings during Activity Hours will probably now give way to being replaced by several events each Quarter similar to this one. Thus, the students in attendance were asked, as well as all students reading this Blog are asked, to discuss among fellow students and provide ideas for future events. These would then usually be in the form of a one hour presentation, as well as the occassional field day trip that especially has common meaning to accountants and finance students alike. Although not yet scheduled, it is hoped that at least one more event this Quarter might be held during the next three weeks. Please keep in mind that the more students attend these events, then the greater the likelihood that there can be more presentations provided.
The Presentation held is another great example of how Berkeley College supports student activities that are both for the fun minded as well as for the students that want serious information that will support their education and career choices. Be sure to recognize that it is up to you to participate in and contribute your time and ideas toward developing your own growth and achieving your goals. I look forward to hearing your ideas for future presentations.
