ACCOUNTABILITY

Welcome to the opening blog of ACCOUNTABILITY!

This blog site hopes to be informative about most things dealing with Accounting and Accountability. Here we will discuss all aspects of Accounting, including current events, technical aspects of the subject matter, and how Accounting can influence your career and personal life, all to the good. The hope here is to have the Accounting program, in particular here at Berkeley College, come "alive" and be meaningful to you both in the choices you make while at college as well as beyond.

We certainly want to be writing about current events that pertain to the Accounting curriculum; new trends in the field; projects that students are working on; activities of the Accounting Club; and so much more. I would like to hear and reflect upon topics that are of interest to you, and to be able to respond and answer your questions. One of the key goals will always be to help prospective students get a better idea of Accounting in general as well as what the Accounting program is like.

Who am I? My name is Philip Levine, and I teach full-time at Berkeley College. I teach primarily the first two entry level Accounting courses - that would be Financial Accounting I and Managerial Accounting - as well as one of the capstone courses, Auditing. As I said and will be saying from time-to-time, there is so much in each of these courses that will assist you to be all that you are capable of being not just in other business courses, not just in Accounting jobs, not just in just about every other business-related position in the business world - as well if you should find yourself working for, or just volunteering to help, a not-for-profit - but in so very many aspects of your personal life, dealing with financial and non-financial matters alike as you find your significant other and raise a family and go through life.

My background includes business experiences in small private companies as well as large public companies; working for business companies as well as not-for-profit companies and as a Public Accountant for an Accounting firm. I am a CPA and an Attorney. I have been responsible for most administrative functions involved in running a firm, including finance, accounting, legal, human resources, and similar. I have served as a Public Accountant, a Private Accountant, as well as an Officer of several companies. I am also an Arbitrator, having served to help resolve many disputes involving business matters, including employment and securities matters. I also have an MBA in Management of Human Resources.

Therefore, given my diverse background, I hope to approach each topic in multi-faceted and various viewpoints. So stay tuned, let me hear from you at any time - and I hope we will all enjoy and learn at the same time.

Again, Welcome!
